Welcome to the Foodbank of Santa Barbara County's North County Picnic in the Park volunteer website! Picnic in the Park is one of the Foodbank's Feed The Future program aimed at ending child hunger and improving child health across the county. At Picnic in the Park we offer free, nutritious meals, activities and enrichment opportunities to ensure that summer is fun for all kids. It is volunteer run, in conjunction with the Santa Maria Parks and Rec Department. 

If you are interested in volunteering please read details below and then follow the instructions. 

Time Commitment: 1 day/week, 2 hrs, 7 weeks during the summer (weekdays only), June 19th - August 4th

Locations: 

Minami Park, 600 W Enos Dr, Santa Maria, CA 93458 - 10:55am - 12:25pm

Rice Park,  700 East Sunset Avenue Santa Maria, CA 93454 - 10:45am - 12:15pm

Russell Park,  1000 West Church Street Santa Maria, CA 93458 - 11:55am - 1:25pm

Grogan Park,1155 West Rancho Verdes Street Santa Maria, CA 93458 - 11:45am - 1:15pm

Volunteer Roles: Most volunteers will act as Site Assistants, responsible for distributing meals to kids. Each site will have at least one Activities Director, responsible for engaging kids in fun and educational activities. All volunteers will help unload, set-up, and clean-up. All sites will be run by a Site Lead from the Parks and Rec Department.  

Training: Each volunteer must attend a scheduled Picnic in the Park volutneer training

Age: You must be 14 years or older to volunteer without an adult supervisor.

HOW TO BECOME A PIP VOLUNTEER

Individuals Please complete the following:

  1. If you have not already created your volunteer profile, please click on the Sign In link in the top right corner and fill out our general volunteer application and waiver
  2. Follow this link to share your preferences of site, day, role, and training. 
  3. If you are 18 years or older, please fill out and submit your background check form (the kids' safety is our #1 priority and that is why all volunteers must pass a background check)
